Empowering environments through intelligent sensing – AI solutions for precision monitoring.
Sens-AI combines artificial intelligence with real-world sensing to deliver scalable, sustainable monitoring platforms. We aim to improve decision-making in agriculture, environment, and smart infrastructure.
We have decades worth of experience in codevelopment and coinnovation of solutions with industries and governments. With our soft experience in the use of Design Thinking and our deep technical expertise in sensors and AI we can be your transition partner in creating a greener and more sustainable world.
In this era of accelerating innovations, “we must run as fast as we can, just to stay in place. And if you wish to go anywhere you must run twice as fast as that.” (Red Queen’s Race) In a tight economy, we work with you to identify how best can you create an innovation portfolio with the least disruption to your core business and with minimal associated costs.
Digitization serves as a key enabler for creating both profit and prosperity across industries. Whether you're operating a small foundry seeking to optimize your supply chain or managing a major mining facility that needs real-time insights into metal quality, digitization empowers you to maximize profit while minimizing waste. This transformation relies on two critical technologies: sensors and AI, which represent the core expertise of Sens-AI.
Revolutionary technologies like AI and ambitious initiatives such as the Green Deal require new regulatory frameworks. We are witnessing the emergence of numerous useful regulations, including the EU AI Act that took effect on August 1st, 2025, along with CBAN, Omnibus, and others. We maintain a keen interest in these developments because they involve sensors and AI technologies, and we are deeply passionate about sustainability. We partner with organizations to ensure their current and future operations comply with these evolving regulatory requirements.
We have decades worth of experience in designing both short and detailed courses on emerging technologies for working professionals. For example, one of our CPD courses on AI has been on offer for multiple years in South Africa. WIL is crucial to both keeping your work-force skilled as well as motivated.
In one of the early patents in the domain of joint communication and sensing (JCAS), we pioneered the use of channel equalisation signals to sense the environment (an innovation which we patented in 2015. We have shown its application in a range of applications starting from detecting wheel-chairs in public places to detecting drones in cluttered backgrounds. If you want to design a system to detect a target or situation of interest, our innovation may mostly be of use.
This project deployed a co-located sensor platform at Cape Point to improve the performance of low-cost air quality sensors. Leveraging expertise in sensor design and blind calibration, advanced AI methods were developed to enhance measurement reliability without relying on reference instruments. The work has been internationally recognised, with invited tutorials delivered at flagship conferences such as IEEE I2MTC 2024, and has led to a patent on innovative calibration approaches (WO2024092293A1). Results have also been published in IEEE I2MTC and IEEE TIM.
A prolific innovator with multiple patents in topics ranging from radar to AI to ASIC-design, Amit has worked in four continents on a wide range of coinnovation challenges and research projects. He has published more than 180 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences and has supervised 11 PhD students to completion so far. Due to our international and interdisciplinary work, Amit also works as an Adjunct Professor in the Univeristy of Cape Town, Univeristy College London, Univeristy of Sunshine Coast (Australia), Univeristy West Sweden and AGH Univeristy Poland.
